Why You Should Quit Drinking Sodas and Colas

Drinking an ice-cold soda on a scorching day is the perfect treat for most people. However, there could be many problems with drinking soda every single day. If this hits close to home, you might want to consider cutting back on your soda and cola consumption.

3 Reasons to Quit Drinking Sodas and Colas

Most sodas and colas are made with high-fructose corn syrup. HFCS is an inexpensive liquid sugar substitute added to many drinks worldwide. Its use allows companies to save money by lowering the cost of their products. However, this trend does not equate to personal health; researchers have found that drinking cola causes severe health problems. To prove this, here are three reasons why you should quit drinking sodas and colas:

1. High-Fructose Corn Syrup is Dangerous for Your Body
There are too many bad things that can be said about high-fructose corn syrup, but perhaps the most well-known thing is that it causes obesity. This claim is not new; studies have found that consumption of HFCS leads to obesity, and the consumption of sugar does not.

2. It is Mainly Used as an Additive in Sodas and Colas
High-fructose corn syrup is added to sodas or colas to give them a specific taste and texture. However, if you are looking to reduce the amount of HFCS in your diet, you can avoid drinking sodas and colas.

3. Soda Consumption is Associated with Serious Diseases
Research has found that soda consumption is associated with severe diseases such as heart disease, obesity, diabetes, osteoporosis, tooth decay, metabolic syndrome, and much more.
To quit drinking soda and cola every day, start doing so by cutting them out of your diet one at a time until you have zero left. Fortunately, there are healthier alternatives that you can drink instead that won't cause too much damage to your body.

Healthier Alternatives to Sodas and Colas

The best way to cut sodas and colas out of your diet is to replace them with healthier alternatives. You can't just go cold-turkey on this because you might experience symptoms similar to addiction withdrawal, which can cause your cravings to grow even further. So, here are some alternatives that you can turn to in the meantime:
Fruit Juices
Instead of sodas, try drinking fresh or low-calorie fruit juices that are not from concentrate. These drinks are healthier alternatives because they don't contain high fructose corn syrup. They also offer more benefits than cola; for example, fruit juice is packed with vitamins and minerals that your body needs and provides plenty of energy to keep you going. You could look for juices like Fit n' Right DETOX fruit drinks to help you start this process.

Water
Sodas and colas are dehydrating, which causes your organs to work harder than usual to stay hydrated. If you're looking for a healthy alternative, you should start drinking more water because it's one of the most nutritious drinks out there. Water has zero calories, but it's still incredibly effective at hydrating the body. However, if you're hesitant to drink more water because it's bland, try adding some fruit slices to add flavor to your drink.

Tea or Coffee
If you enjoy drinking tea or coffee, consider making your beverages at home. But if you are not fond of the taste of plain water, you can always drink black tea or decaf coffee instead because they have zero calories. Or you could put some raw honey, cinnamon, or even a bit of fruit juice in your drink if you want something different.

Milk
Instead of soda, try drinking milk or because it's full of calcium and vitamins essential for bone health. It's also low in sugar compared to many other drinks, but drinking whole milk isn't the best idea because it contains high levels of saturated fats that can lead to obesity. Instead, try plant milk. There are many options including: soy milk, oat milk, almond milk, hemp milk, and coconut milk. All of these are healthy alternatives. Just don't forget to read the label to make sure you select the healthiest alternative, including carcinogen free as carcinogen is considered to cause cancer in humans.

Nutritional Drinks
Instead of soda, try drinking sports beverages or nutritional drinks if you're looking for something different to drink while working out. These drinks can boost your energy levels and hydrate you simultaneously because they contain electrolytes.

In addition to drinking healthier alternatives, try increasing your activity levels to shed the weight you've gained from drinking sodas and colas. You might be surprised by how much weight you can lose when you start exercising regularly and watching what you eat.

Start going for brisk walks, jogging, or swimming every day to lose pounds. Once you've shed all of that weight, you can stick with drinking healthier alternatives instead of sodas and colas. After kicking the unhealthy habit, you will thank yourself for it later on down the road because you'll feel healthier and happier.
