Reading may not seem like the most exciting thing to do when you have Facebook and Minecraft to keep you occupied, but reading is one of the best things you can do in your teenage years, for so many reasons.

Here are just a few of the reasons why it’s good to be a teenage bookworm:

Entertainment
You don’t need to stream the latest zombie show on Netflix or spend your time glued to your laptop screen to have a good time. Books are one of the original and best forms of entertainment. They can make you think, feel and have a great time. Whether you love vampires or can’t get enough of action heroes, there is always a book that is guaranteed to give you a good time.

Learn About Life
Reading about other cultures, perspectives and experiences you’ve yet to have can prepare you for life in the wider world. Books enable you to expand your horizons and see things differently. They make the world smaller and you a bigger part of it.

Build Your Vocabulary
Reading everything from novels to textbooks is a great way to build your vocabulary. The more you read, the more words you are exposed to and the more understanding of the English language you will gain.
Intelligence
One thing that most of the greatest minds in the world had in common is that they read a lot. Reading is the best way to find and absorb information, so if you want to be the next Elon Musk or Albert Einstein, you need to start picking up books in your chosen field of interest and actually doing some reading!

Improve Your Prospects
Of course, one of the major things a reading habit can do for you is improve your prospects. At your age, you will be expected to read, write and take a number of tests, which will determine which college you get into and could even have an impact on your future career. If therefore, you already have a strongly established reading habit, you will be at an advantage, and you should find it much easier to get to grips with standardized tests.

Prepare for College
There’s a reason why websites like Doctor Luggage are packed with sturdy college backpacks. When you get to college, no matter what you choose as your major, you will be expected to do a lot of reading. Not a day will go by when you won’t have your nose in a book, and if you’re not used to reading, you could find this very difficult. By picking up a reading habit in your teens, you can get used to reading, and understanding what you read, so that you will be on the road to success when you finally make it to college.
As you can see, there are so many positives to reading books that, even if you haven’t been much of a bookworm before, it is certainly worth visiting the library and making an effort to get into the reading habit. It will make your life better in so many ways!
