What To Do If You're Being Bullied At School?

One out of every four children admits to being bullied at school.

So, you should never feel like you’re in it alone. It’s a nasty thing that has become a fact of life. There are lots of organizations out there that try to rectify the problem. However, none of them will manage to stamp it out completely. With that in mind, people going through this situation need to first understand the problem is not you, but rather the one causing the damage. Bullies are usually bullied at home and/or are very insecure. Hence, they bring out their frustrations on others. While it should not justify their behavior, it definitely helps us understand that the problem is not the person being bullied. Here are simply steps to ease the issue and hopefully put an end to it properly.

Do not fight back
It’s vital that you don’t get physical with the bully. They are trying to provoke a reaction out of you, and you can’t give it to them. Simply remove yourself from the situation until you can follow the next step.

Tell your teacher
You must tell your teacher if you are being bullied. Don’t do it in front of the entire class if you feel self-conscious or embarrassed. Just wait until you can get their attention when nobody else is around.

Tell your parents
Your parents need to know if you’re having problems at school. They love you, and they don’t want you to go through a hard time. Ensure you tell them everything and don’t keep any secrets. Presuming your teacher doesn’t sort the problem, a call from your parents could take the issue a step further.

Now you know what to do if you’re being bullied, you should never have to suffer in silence. No matter what a bully might say, you are always best to tell an adult and sort the situation. Your school days are hard enough without having to worry about something like that.

If the bullying becomes physical, by all means defend yourself. The problem may stop there or may arise. But it is important to bring this issue to an adult. One of the biggest mistakes is thinking you can handle the bullying. Because you are probably not the only one. This person needs help and while that's probably the last thing you want for them, it's the one thing that will stop the bullying with you and those after you.

Don't think you're the problem because you are not.
