Top Tips For Choosing An Engagement Ring

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of incredible events in a woman's life. Everyone will pick out different occasions as the most memorable. But for many women, young or old, getting engaged and married stand out among the best. While the wedding is an incredible day and the beginning of your marriage, an engagement stands out too. Most of the time, you don't know when it's going to happen, unlike the wedding when you set a date. You may get a surprise or discuss the engagement with your partner, or perhaps even propose to them. Whatever you choose to do, most girls have to have an engagement ring.

Choosing one can take a long time, though, so use this guide to pick the perfect ring.

Stones and Metals
Some of the first things to think about are the precious stones and metals that you like. Yellow gold and diamonds are probably the most popular choices. But they're definitely not the only ones. In fact, you can have anything you want. You don't have to follow any rules in regards to shape, size, color or anything else. It's your ring! Colored gemstones used to be much more popular, and many brides-to-be are choosing something more unusual. Instead of a diamond, you could have an emerald, sapphire or ruby. You could choose white gold, rose gold, platinum or even silver for the band.

The Four Cs
When you're looking at stones, you need to remember the 4 Cs. Whether you're looking at designer engagement rings or antiques, these are important. They stand for cut, clarity, color, and carat. The carat is the weight and size of the stone, which will affect its cost. The color of diamonds is rated alphabetically. The letter indicates whether it's entirely clear or has a hint of yellow or other subtle tones. Clarity refers to the condition inside the stone, but it's relatively unimportant. When it comes to the cut, there are several options. Learn the difference between a princess cut, round, pear, marquise, and so on.

Price
You may not like it, but you need to think of the price of your ring. Of course, you're hoping to keep it for the rest of your life. So it needs to be good quality. However, you have a wedding in front of you, including another ring to buy. Remember that as soon as you leave the shop with your ring, it will be worth a whole lot less than you just paid for it. So think sensibly about your budget. You could even consider buying a secondhand ring and resizing it.

Matching with a Wedding Ring
Don't forget that you will soon have another ring on your finger. Traditionally your wedding ring will sit underneath your engagement ring. The wedding might be a long way off, but you might want to think about what sort of ring you'll go for. If you want a traditional gold band, will it match your white gold engagement ring with the the pink sapphire?

Choose your ring carefully because it could be on your finger for a long time. And remember, it's your choice, as long as you can afford what you want.
