Take on a More Productive Role at Your College

If you’re currently attending or plan to attend college in the near future, then you may be asking yourself one simple question that will define who you are at your new school: should I blend in or stand out?

Of course, some people have perky personalities and they just can’t help but stand out. Some people make a name for themselves by being different, and others like to blend in so that they hide among the crowd and don’t draw much attention.

Whatever you pick, you should never forget the option of standing out to take on a more productive role at your school.

Becoming a figure of authority
Being productive at college depends on what kind of role you want to take up. For instance, you could be that college kid that has all the latest gadgets and makes it their role to be the “tech support kid” of the class. Since more and more colleges are implementing technology into their classes, it makes sense to teach faculty members how to operate computers and specific devices. However, they usually aren’t very good with technology and it’s up to the students to get something working and teach the rest of the class how to use a specific computer program or piece of hardware.

If you establish yourself as a knowledgeable and reliable person, then you’ll be making more friends, getting on the good side of your teachers, and you’ll build up a reputation as someone who can be trusted and knows a lot about a certain subject. This can also apply to fashion, fitness or even music.
Becoming part of the student council
If your college has a student council, then it might be worth trying to get on board to help your fellow students get a better quality of life at school. Whether it’s replacing old school gym equipment to give the students a better place to practice sports or a change in the cafeteria meals to accommodate different tastes, a student council body can make drastic changes to a school that can be extremely beneficial for all the students studying at the college.

Hosting clubs
Many colleges offer after-school clubs and groups that you can join. If you’re passionate about a specific subject or want to show your fellow students the joys of a hobby that you indulge in, then setting up a club is one of the best ways to pique interest. Whether it’s a love for animated cartoons, painting or even a unique sport that isn’t on the curriculum, all it takes is a simple talk to a figure of authority, such as a teacher or a senior member of staff, and you could get your club up and running before the first week is over at your new college.

College life doesn’t have to be boring classes that run back to back, and it doesn’t have to be a dull experience that is quickly forgotten once you graduate either. If you want to make the most out of your college years, then consider taking on a more productive role and give something back.
