chick at heart in a way that won’t generate puzzled looks from the people around them. Take a look at some of these ideas and toss them, embrace them, adapt them... but remember you are perfect just the way you are and fitting in to a society is not something you need to do. Be who you are and embrace your uniqueness. Stack Jewelry The groupies of old were rarely modest with their choice of jewelry. Instead, they stacked it up wherever they could, on their hands, wrists, necks, and ears. It wasn’t uncommon for women to have multiple studs of different colors circling their earlobes like a giant wheel. Today, jewelry choices are far more modest than back in the heydey of rock n’ roll. But that doesn’t mean that the two styles can’t find some common ground. Today’s rock chicks eschew some of the brighter colors but stick to stacking - the practice of layering many items of jewelry on top of one another. Choose neutral colors, like silver and gold, and then layer them up, be they ear studs, rings, necklaces or bracelets. Subtly Betray Your Taste In Music With Sweaters With the holiday season just around the corner, many women are taking the opportunity to construct their holiday wardrobes. But there’s a problem: holiday clothing has almost nothing to do with rock music. Or does it? The Grateful Dead - an iconic rock band that emerged in San Francisco in the 1960s - used dancing bears as their logo. Grateful Dead Christmas sweaters featuring these bears look positively festive, though only a few dedicated rock fans will recognise their true significance. Want to wear a Christmas sweater with pride this year? Get a rock-themed one. Skinny Pants The good news for rock chicks is that skinny pants - the kind worn by rock legends over the years - are in fashion right now. Go with black, of course, and pair them with little black high-heeled boots. Sure, it’s subtle, but at least you won’t be betraying your roots. Cat Eye Makeup Punk rockers took to eye makeup like bees take to nectar. They wore it all the time, and you should too. Grab an eyeliner pencil and apply to both the upper and lower lids. Add a bit of eyeshadow and mascara, and then the final flourish - the cat line out of the side of the eye. You’ll look edgy and moody, and, to some, a throwback to a better era. Be More Boho Many rock chicks think that the only way to avoid looking like everybody else is to wear ripped jeans and t-shirts with Kurt Cobain’s face on them. But there are other ways of signaling to the world that you might be a little alternative. Boho dresses, for instance, aren’t out of place at a party but suggest that you have a different, hippy-chic vibe. Go for dresses with interesting and unusual patterns and colors that wouldn’t make it into the mainstream.
