Hollywood Dental Secrets Porcelain Laminates

Extensive use of laminates in Hollywood and amongst celebrities, in general, is probably best not described as a secret. At the end of the day, veneers themselves date back to 1920s Hollywood and through the golden era of cinema, but they were artificial plastic and definitely part of the makeup department rather than a permanent dental fixture.

But now, almost all celebrities and even those who were comfortable with their teeth before entering such a competitive industry find themselves wearing laminates. And the trend is flowing downstream, with many patients looking to see how the news could improve their appearance and give them a competitive edge or a general boost in self-confidence. 

Types of laminates 
Dental bonding has evolved with time. but traditional porcelain wafers still exist. These are more common to come across, as they are made of a mixture of porcelain and polymers, giving them an excellent convincing porcelain surface with the additional strength to resist chipping and survive the wear and tear that comes with composite. Not to mention, it also provides a better surface on the inside of the laminate to keep it in place. ​

Composite resin bondings
Composite resin bondings are an alternative to traditional laminates that fulfil many of the same roles, using newer UV-cured resins built up in layers before being sculpted, with dental equipment to give a convincing and hard-wearing alternative surface to the front of the teeth. They behave much like laminates but can be carried out in a single fitting or procedure. 

Fast and effective
The speed of treatment and total coverage given by laminates are some of the greatest appeals. They can meet and resolve a wide range of aesthetic issues, hiding chips and cracks. When used restoratively on a single tooth or when used as a full set, they offer the patient an exceptional amount of control in altering the shade and texture of their teeth as well as correcting small alignment issues. 

How they are made
Dental bondings used to be made in third-party dental laboratories; this created a two-step process, one where measurements were taken and the order was placed with a dental laboratory and the second when the bondings were fitted after they were delivered to the clinic. With the growth in-clinic milling and small prosthetic design, such workflows involving laboratories are becoming antiquated, with clinics capable of producing laminates, crowns and inlays on site. All of these procedures can now be done in a single visit, avoiding the use of unreliable temporary solutions.

Fitting and maintenance 
The fitting is quite different depending on the use of veneers Liverpool vs composite bonding, but the maintenance is very much the same: regular brushing and attending your local surgery once every 6 months as part of your regular checkup. However, both forms of cosmetic reconstruction have a potential risk of encroaching cavities, which start on the edge of the tooth and continue under the prosthetic, attacking the front surface unobserved.
