Botulinum Toxin, the Original Injectable

Botulinum products are the oldest and most commonly used of the injectables, with trials starting back in 1978! Despite the explosion in dermal fillers in recent years, this treatment remains the most popular.

There's a good reason for this. But did you know that, in the UK, botulinum products and other treatments can be legally carried out by anyone with little or no medical training? This is why it is so important to shop around and find a practitioner who is not just the closest or cheapest, but one that can meet all challenges medically and technically, helping you to achieve the aesthetic goals you want to reach.

One medical provider who you may not immediately think of when trying to find an injectables practitioner is your local dentist!  Many of them have started to include injectables in their cosmetic bag of tricks like Botox Kent and this can really be the best of both worlds.
With the convenience being on your doorstep, mixed with the professionalism that comes with an established business whose staff have to go through extensive medical training, you may be thinking, does a degree in dentistry really prepare you for cosmetic procedures?

Dental degrees contain cosmetic elements, as all dental practitioners do consider the aesthetic impact of their treatments. Facial physiology, facial muscle groups and the concept of symmetry are all aspects of dental surgical procedure. Part of a dental degree that was carried out perhaps a decade ago would not contain any of the recent developments in facial fillers, but dental clinics are committed to ongoing training, often sending their staff to additional training courses, as well as having to show that their clinical team is staying up to date with the newest dental techniques and procedures.  A big part of this ongoing training for modern dental clinics is adapting to a cosmetic landscape where injectables are on the rise.

Somewhere to Go If the Worst Happens
One of the biggest issues with unregulated providers of injectables is culpability. Unless you can show that you have been harmed by the procedure the definition of whether they have done their work well or not is very ethereal. There is no regulatory organisation and your only option would be a court claim which can be both inconvenient and costly.
However, any minor disputes at a dental clinic and the staff will do their best to resolve the matter in a satisfactory way, as maintaining the reputation of the surgery is far more important than that of a pop-up kiosk.

For serious issues with the quality of work, there is the General Dental Council who are responsible for maintaining the standards of dentistry in the UK. This includes any cosmetic procedures that occur at any dental clinic. They are responsible for maintaining a register of which dentists are permitted to practise and have a mandate to investigate all complaints and restrict licences to practise where appropriate.

You can easily get in contact with the General Dental Council via their website. Their dental register is also publicly available, allowing you to research the credentials of your dentist before any treatment.
