With technology advancing at immense speed, it pays to have a few extra tech skills on your CV to make your resume standout. After college, you’ll have a wealth of experience under your belt from both the studious and social experiences you’ll enjoy. But how do you set yourself apart from every other person taking their first steps on the career ladder? Today we’re going to focus a bit more on creative industries and how to get a foot in the door. Most brands know by now that they’re not going to survive unless they have a sleek website and a big social media presence. It might just be that the company you want to work for is advertising a junior position in the team. A CV that has added technology skills will be much more eye-catching than one that lacks them.

With the advent of blogging and social media, more and more companies are realizing the importance of utilizing these platforms. But that does not necessarily mean that all companies have the staff to execute the platforms with ease. Taking photographs for blogs and social media is somewhat different from hiring a professional. Social media photos have to capture a moment and draw clients into the world they are trying to create. They have to build up momentum, strike a chord with customers and also show the ‘real life’ behind the brand. These will give you a great new skill set for your working life. 
Adding coding and web developing to your skills will also guarantee you a higher salary in the future. It isn’t an easy skill to learn which is why it is so valuable in the workforce. And at the end of the day, you will be able to create luxury websites, mobile apps, and software applications. All will have employers falling at your feet. Upon graduating, it’s definitely worth considering learning how to code. If you can learn advanced web developments, they will make you stand out in the crowd.

Excel and PowerPoint

The ability to wear numerous hats in an office environment has now become a key part of an employee’s job. Even if you are not going for an administration job, it pays to be able to put advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills on your CV. It may be that you have touched on both programs in school but want to hone your skills, so you are a whizz with spreadsheets and design. If so, there are plenty of one-day workshops and online courses that you can utilize to up your game. The art of budgeting and making successful and effective presentations is a key part of getting on the career ladder.

Add to that; Excel has become one of the most important computer programs to use in business since its arrival in 1985. Excel is used for everything from marketing and product management to financing and human resources planning. If you can show that you have advanced Excel experience, your prospective employer is sure to rejoice.
