Dating and finding a new partner decades ago was as simple as seeing someone you liked, getting to know them in whichever environment you found them in, and developing that through actual dates, such as going for meals and spending time at the cinema. The differences these days are how people initially find each other. It can be as simple as a random message via social media AKA sliding into DM’s, or a swipe on Tinder. But when you’re done searching local chat line numbers for interaction, what other ways are there to speak to potential friends or partners?Technology It goes without saying that technology has made a massive difference to the dating scene. Whether it’s booking a date in a restaurant online, searching for the new person that you have just met on social media and working out exactly what they’re all about, and even if they’re already in a relationship (shocking), but the actual dating itself is generally similar. We do have a more laid-back approach to dating in 2019, however. We no longer need to get dressed up and make a considerable effort to show our potential partner what we’re all about. We are always thinking of ways to enjoy ourselves on dates, and a quick Google search will show you all the different options that are available in your area. It can be as simple as choosing an escape room, which certainly wouldn’t be an option decades ago, or finding a park nearby. One of the most significant changes to the dating scene through technology has to be that distance has been reduced significantly. Since you can speak to anybody in the whole world instantly with the use of the Internet. Social media Social media can have its good and bad points, with the click of a button we can find almost anything about a person if they have shared a lot online over the years. Of course, this can lead to misunderstandings and things that would have been left in the past otherwise, but it’s always good to talk to the person directly, rather than to make assumptions. Social media, however, can also bring people closer together in as much as sharing experiences and making sure that we stay connected, which can always be a good thing. Gone are the days where you would have to wait till the end of the day to speak to your loved ones when they get to a phone. Options The term there are plenty more fish in the sea really does apply these days, because most single people are using dating apps, you will find that you have many more options and people to interact with. This can be a positive or negative experience depending on the type of person you are. Years ago we would’ve been limited to the people we come across in our day-to-day lives, but with the help of apps on our phone, we have the entire population of people searching for love in our pockets.

An interest enables you to have an extra facet to your life, where you can escape the pressures of working and focus your attention on something enjoyable instead. A hobby can also help you to develop specialist skills, such as photography, antique restoration, or crafts, for example. As your skills develop even further, you could transform your hobby into a lucrative side hustle. It’s easy to look at organised people and question, "how on earth do they do it?" They make it look easy to to have their lives together.
Here are a few reasons why. You’ll stay in control of your money Money is something that each and every one of us needs to master in adulthood. Unless you’re lucky enough to be incredibly wealthy, you’re going to be working to a budget and managing money in some way. Get this wrong and you’ll quickly fall behind with payments, you can run up arrears and even get into debt. Let this spiral and you can find yourself having to deal with bailiffs and debt collectors and getting yourself in a really stressful situation. While there’s help out there, from debt charities to solicitors like McCarthy Law PLC who can give you advice if you get stuck- of course, prevention is always better than cure. Budgeting your money, making sure all of your important outgoings are paid first and saving are great ways to get organised with your money. You could have all of your bills taken out of a separate bills account via direct debt which saves you from having to make manual payments so nothing is ever missed. You could even automate your savings, setting up a standing order to be taken out of your wages each payday and transfer directly to a savings account. If you’re constantly running out of money, going overdrawn and getting in a fluster with money then this is an area of your life that’s so worth getting organised in. You’ll manage your weight better Despite the fact that we know more about health than ever before, we’re in the midst of an obesity epidemic. One of the main reasons for this is that delicious, unhealthy food is so easily available these days. There are fast food restaurants at every turn, apps that will deliver your favourite takeaway to your door 24/7. This kind of temptation can be hard to resist, but getting organised with your meals can definitely make it easier. Get into the habit of writing up a menu plan for the week, and then grocery shop based on this. That way you always have the ingredients you need on hand, you don’t find yourself stood in the kitchen at 6pm with nothing in and thinking ‘Oh well, I’ll order a pizza.’ Cooking for yourself means you’ll save massively on calories, fat, salt and sugar as you’re in control. So plan out what you’re going to have, if you have all of the ingredients you need you can put together the meals of your choice and not be tempted by unhealthy options. You’ll use your time better Time is so precious, we’re all on time limits and need to make the most of what we have. Most of us have to fit in work and other commitments such as attending appointments, running a home, taking care of children or family members. If you’re disorganised it’s so easy to drop the ball, you can miss important things, find yourself running late and generally feel as though there aren’t enough hours in the day. Get serious and prioritise your time- that hour spent scrolling through your phone at night would be better spent sleeping. That weekend binge watching Netflix could be used to do something productive. It’s not to say you need to be constantly on the go (as that’s incredibly unhealthy). It means work out where you’re wasting time and use that time better. Schedule time to relax and unwind too, that way you can enjoy it guilt free. Get into the habit of writing to- do lists for the week or day ahead so you know where you need to be, at what time and what you’ll need for each task. You’ll reduce stress levels Because of all of the reasons above, being organised will help you to manage your stress levels. You know where you’re supposed to be, and at what time as you’ve scheduled your days. You’ll get up in the morning and your clothes will be ready where you made the effort to lay them out the night before. Your lunch will be packed, and you’ll get out of the door without any hassle. You’ll know where to find all of your possessions and putting them away will be just as easy. These might all sound like small things, but often stress in life really is a series of small things. If you can take care of these daily hassles you might be surprised at how much better you feel and how much your mental health improves. With such busy lives it can be hard to stand back and slow things down from time to time. We are often on the go from the moment we wake until we go to sleep and there seems to be no real thinking space. Which is what we want to help you to address today as we share with you 3 things to do for you. Press pause for an hour or two and think these ideas over and then take the time to do something for yourself this month. Get out and explore When was the last time that you explored somewhere new? Exploring new places can change your perspective, inject new ideas and simply make you happy. You might just explore some new places within your own neighborhood that you keep meaning to try. Perhaps a new restaurant, store or forest trail. Or maybe you will try a day trip to somewhere that you have been wanting to visit for some time now. You might go further afield, go bigger. You could book yourself a minibreak or vacation somewhere far flung. It will be something to look forward to as well as something to enjoy whilst you are there. Book a day off for yourself Book a day off for yourself, a day off from absolutely everything. When we book days off it is often with the intention of getting something done. We might have chores to get done around the house, shopping trips to go on or it is a time for catching up with people. Whilst these things all have their place, a ‘do-nothing day’ is an important game changer for you. This is a day where your day is entirely your own, where no chores and tasks will be on your to-do list, a day where there is no to-do list. You might lounge in bed all day, you might read books from dawn until dusk, you might have a movie marathon or perhaps you will treat yourself to lunch at your favorite restaurant. It is a day for you to indulge, unwind and recharge. Seek to make positive changes Have you been dissatisfied for some time? In your health, your career, your home or perhaps a toxic relationship? Maybe now is the time to seek to make some positive changes. You might get proactive and book yourself in on a course or perhaps join a new fitness class. You might want to dig out the recipe books and get back to cooking fresh food daily and eating more healthily. Maybe it is your home that is frustrating you, in which case look into decorating a room or two, adding new accessories or just giving it a good declutter. We know that sometimes it isn’t quite as simple as focusing in on your health and fitness and home. If you need to make more serious changes, whether you need the support of a sober living program or your domestic situation is untenable, then do see help in order to make those changes that you need to. |
