CHOOSING A DERMATOLOGIST AND WHAT TO LOOK FOR

9/12/2017

Dermatology is the study of the skin, which is the largest organ in the entire body. This field of medicine also covers the study of the hair and nails as well. It is the first line of defense against many pathogens, as well as being crucial for maintaining the body’s homeostasis. Dermatologists are specialists whose role is to diagnose and treat diseases relating to this organ. Choosing the right doctor in your area is a major step to protecting your skin.
Picture

Below are some factors I consider when selecting a dermatologist (near me) to work with.

Does this doctor feel right?
There are many variables when searching for a physician to work with. This is a practitioner that is going to possibly care for some very sensitive and intimate parts of your body, and it is imperative for you to have a comfortable and confident relationship with your dermatologist. It is important to create a list of the factors that are important to you because there will not be one single person who will match every item on your list. Is gender more important? Narrowing the search to only male or only female practitioners may exclude a physician with more experience. If finding the best dermatologist near me is the number one priority, then I may have to accept someone that does not have a very comforting bedside manner. When choosing a doctor, it is also important to take the hospital quality into consideration. There are websites and reviews available on the hospitals and physicians in your area, and it would be smart to do some research before making that first appointment.
Do you see residency students in the doctor’s office? When a professional takes the time to become educated and confident enough to teach others, it often shows a high level of commitment and passion towards the field. These teaching doctors also must keep their credentials and knowledge base current and cutting edge. Choosing a clinic like this can often mean more experienced practitioners are helping you with your problem, as well as cost savings from allowing the residents to work with you.
Ask for referrals
Picture
My primary care physician is an excellent resource for beginning the search for a dermatologist near me. Your family doctor participates in a local medical community and may know quality specialists that will be a good fit for you. Family and friends may also be able to provide quality referrals when searching for a dermatologist in your area. Clinic and hospital websites are also useful resources.
Many doctors have online profiles where patients leave comments and reviews. These reviews and patient satisfaction surveys can provide a wealth of information about the physician and their practice.
Check Credentials
It is important to check for the dermatologist's current board certification. These doctors may have taken additional time to specialize in certain disease processes or procedures, and it is important to match your needs with a dermatologist that can rise to the occasion and take the best care of you. There are some lowered expectations in the area of dermatology by the public, as the misconception that it is a profession of glorified cosmetology.

However, while these specialists can provide many cosmetic procedures such as Botox and microdermabrasion, they also provide many necessary and life-saving treatments. The skin is the largest and one of the most important organs for self-regulation. Every treatment and procedure that dermatologists oversee can have significant and life-altering consequences. There are many issues and complications that can arise from poor dermatological care. Poorly done grafts, injectables administered in the wrong doses or locations, lasers and other procedures can cause more injuries than they were originally brought in to heal. When I am looking for the best dermatologist near me, I look on state and government websites for reviews and doctor bios. There will be information on these resources that allow you to see if the doctor has had any malpractice cases or disciplinary actions brought against them.

Educational credentials are important for choosing a quality specialist, but hands on experience is also a major factor when deciding on the right doctor. Ask the dermatologist how long they have been practicing. Is there an area or condition that they have had a lot of experience treating? Are there conditions that they have little to no experience with? An ethical doctor will have no qualms answering any of your questions about their history and practice.
What would a dermatologist near me treat?
Dermatologists treat over
3,000 conditions.
Here are some of the more common:
● Acne: This is a very common skin condition caused by blockages in the oil glands. Acne is the underlying condition that causes the formation of pimples, which can swell, cause a lot of pain, and cause scarring. Though it can affect anyone, it is most common during puberty in the teenage years.

● Eczema: Eczema is an irritating condition caused by inflammation of the skin. It results in swelling and itchy red patches. There are various forms of eczema, but atopic dermatitis is the most common.

● Nail issues: Nails can be a good indication of your overall health, and nail conditions such as fungal infections make up about 5% of all dermatological conditions.
● Hair loss: This is another common condition treated by dermatologists. Hereditary hair loss cannot be treated, but it can be retarded or slowed down.

● Psoriasis: This is a chronic autoimmune disorder where skin cell growth is increased above the normal range, resulting in thick, silvery scales on red skin. The condition itself has no cure, but a dermatologist may suggest many different treatments to stop the spread of the rash.

● Skin cancer: Every year almost 6 million people in the US receive treatment for this type of cancer. One in five Americans will develop some form of the disease at one time in their life. It can present itself as an unusual or new mole, a mole that has grown or changed recently, or an itchy or irritated patch. The three most common types are basal cell carcinoma (BCC), melanoma, and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). If detected early, it can be treated, so, it is imperative to see the dermatologist as soon as possible if you suspect something is wrong.
How much would it cost to see a dermatologist?
A dermatologist that specializes in rare skin disorders has a good reputation and many word of mouth referrals can charge up to $200. Standard charges to see a dermatologist are typically between $100 and $170 per visit. Some dermatologists allow the use of private health insurance, which brings the cost down to around $85 per visit.

If you liked this article and want to find a dermatologist near you or abroad, you can search the thousands of providers registered on HospitalHippo. Provider Pages have dermatologist reviews and detailed information on the hospital or clinic that they are associated with. HospitalHippo is not a booking platform, but you can contact hospitals and clinics directly about dermatologist appointments. You can also find some great information that providers themselves post on their real-time feeds.

I think there’s no sense in portraying to the world that all women should look the same. Young women today are being turned off by fashion, by those who do insist on showing it on just one kind of girl. It’s not who they see. It’s not who they want to be.

We hope you find inspiration from the old and the new and express yourself in a way that exudes confidence and the real you. Just like these designers found inspiration from current events, society, and the world, so can you!

What Really Happens After Graduation?

9/7/2017

Life is full of twists and turns, not least after you graduate from college. You've spent your formative years working hard on studying, and now you've adorned the mortar board and gained that diploma. But on that momentous day in your life, no doubt a few worries are running through your mind. Let's get this out of the way, life can suck on occasion, it can be difficult, but you've got to work hard to achieve what you want in life.

But how can we make the most of life after we graduate?

Job Hunting, The Necessary Evil
Picture

You may certainly feel that after graduation that you can go straight towards your chosen career, or you may not have any idea of what you want to do just yet, which is absolutely fine. But it can be a very tiring process, sending resume after resume, to find that you are one of the hundreds of applicants, and it's not even for a high-powered job! Unfortunately, in the short term, it's a necessary evil, we all need to learn our way, even if it's to pay back some of the debt you've accrued throughout college. The finance aspect can be very stressful indeed, but as long as you are savvy in how you are working to pay it back (as long as you pay a little bit back here and there), you are on the right track. There are suitable resources you can find online, such as consolidatestudent.loan that can point you in the right direction. So make sure you get all the help you can, whether it's financial, moral, or career help. You won't get the job you want right away, but the fact is that no one does! The cliché is we've all got to start somewhere, so remember that.
Your Life Will Change, For The Better
Picture

It may not feel like it at the time, but getting out of university and embarking on that long journey through life will be the making of you. Going through college with a simple structure of lectures/socializing/sleep is fine, to begin with. But life in the Big Wide World means you will go through a lot of tough times. You will find you have a lot less money than you did during college (yes really!), so if you want to try and keep some part of your student life alive with less budget, it’s worth looking at frugal living sites like thebalance.com to get some inspiration. And working from 9 to 5 may seem pretty straightforward, but for the first year after graduating it does drain you a bit. So you may find you will have to change your socializing habits, that means no more staying out until 2 a.m. and rolling out of bed just in time for work at 9. Your body will thank you! There's also the possibility of creating your own business and not worrying about working on a desk. Either way, your body needs rest and needs to refuel its energy, so be kind to it.

University is a fantastic time in your life, you will learn a lot about yourself. Life becomes infinitely more challenging, but you will find out what you are capable of as a person. You will still embody some of the traits of a student for many years to come after graduating, living with roommates, heading out on Friday, Saturday and, occasionally, Sunday night, but it's something that will gradually fade away, and you will be happier for it!

The College Life Crisis: Handling Issues Outside Of The Lecture Room

9/5/2017

The beginning of college is undeniably one of the most exciting times in any young person’s life. For the vast majority, though, it’s also a time where you will quickly grow up. In truth, the need to take on increased responsibility during lectures is just the start.

College life requires maturity in many different areas, especially if you want to achieve greatness. Gaining control over those external matters is what will make all the difference to the success of these crucial years.

Here’s how to adopt winning routines from the very start.

Picture
#1. Feel Comfortable At Home
If your living situation is unsuitable during college, it will take its toll on your studies and your general happiness. Therefore, this must be the first element that you look to perfect.

Living in shared accommodation may be fun for the first few weeks, but it could soon stop you from working. Finding a studio apartment for rent is often the far better solution. It provides you with far greater control over your study-leisure balance, which enables you to seek more joy from both aspects.

Moreover, having a space that’s all yours makes it far easier to keep clean and organized. There’s nothing worse than living with overly messy roommates. For the sake of your happiness as well as your studies, creating a positive living space is essential.
#2. Work Out A Study Strategy
They say that college is about more than gaining qualifications. While this may be true, it’s imperative that you remember the main purpose is to get the grades needed for a successful career. As such, those studies should always be at the heart of your activities.

Lectures give you a foundation of knowledge, but college relies heavily on autonomy. By improving your study technique, you won’t just achieve better grades. You’ll also improve the efficiency. This means that you’ll have more time for the other activities that will make college the most memorable time of your life.

Once your studies are going well, external issues will feel far less problematic too. If that doesn’t give you an incentive to perfect this aspect ASAP, what will?
Picture

#3. Generate An Income
As a student, you’re unlikely to be blessed with vast financial resources. Learning to cope with a small budget is an important factor of college life, but you shouldn’t ignore the need to earn some cash. Even if it’s only a few dollars to cover educational expenses, it will go a long way to enhancing the experience.

Working shouldn’t stand in the way of lectures or outside study. Nonetheless, finding a part-time job can be a great way to increase your development and understanding of the world. Ideally, you’ll be able to gain experience in your chosen field too. When this happens, your academic progress is likely to see positive impacts too.

Above all else, removing the financial fears allows you to concentrate on enjoying life and your studies.
#4. Organize Outgoings
Financial control is a two-way street, though. Consequently, in addition to earning a little money to supplement your studies, you must think about your overheads. After all, reduced waste can make life feel far less stressful.

As a student, you’ll already be used to the concept of pre-drinking and saving money on nights out. However, it’s equally vital that you make positive daily choices. From meal preps to avoiding needless expenses like buying an Uber when you could walk, those steps will aid your finances greatly. Another top trick is to buy books from past graduates at a discounted rate.

Meanwhile, this is a great time to incorporate a fitness hobby into your life. Student gym memberships are often cheaper anyway. Use it on a regular basis, and you’ll be gaining fantastic value for money.

#5. Maintaining Contact
College is a wonderful time where you will meet dozens of new people, and this can make it all very exciting. However, there’s a strong probability that only a handful will remain friends after graduation. With this in mind, you should not forget about friends and relatives back home.

Given that we all lead busy lives, nobody expects to be in constant contact. Nonetheless, modern technology makes it very easy to stay in touch with friends. Whether it’s using social media or video conferencing doesn’t matter. Making an effort will ensure that you retain those key friendships.

Besides, you’ll probably return home during the holidays. If you are in contact with people, it’ll be far easier to organize events during those periods.
#6. Learn To Grow
Academic progress is only one part of your ongoing development. In truth, growing as a person is equally crucial during this transitional period of your life. You must not let it go undervalued.

This increased independence should encourage you to learn various key skills. Furthermore, though, you must learn to connect with your health. This is especially true when considering mental health because only you will know when there is an issue. Help is available when you think there is an issue. Being vigilant is key.

College is also a part of your life where you need to start putting yourself first. Helping others is a wonderful thing, but it mustn’t come at the expense of your needs. That slightly selfish approach is the only way you’ll get anywhere in the real world. Use this time to embrace it.
Picture

#7. Enjoy A Good Social Life
Most of the above points are linked to taking responsibility and growing up. Nevertheless, college is a special time in your life that is there to be enjoyed. A good social life is a key aspect of this, and you must not overlook it.

Ok, so you don’t want to end up in jail. Still, doing a few foolish things is important. Meanwhile, arranging a trip for Spring Break can be incredible. Those magical memories will last a lifetime, and this is one of the things that will make college the best time of your life.

Ultimately, the last thing you want to do is look back on college life with regret. Find the right balance between the two key ingredients, and you’ll be sure to find a recipe for success.

“SURPRISE!”: Four Magical Gift Ideas Your PARTNER Will Never Expect

9/4/2017

Even when you know him inside out, finding the perfect gift for your boyfriend is never easy. Whether it’s celebrating his birthday, an anniversary, or a job promotion doesn’t matter. Giving him the same feeling of excitement that he gives you on those special occasions can feel almost impossible. The key to making it happen, however, is to provide the shock factor.

Here are four top tips to surprise him with the next gift you give. If that doesn’t kick him into huge smiles, nothing will.

Picture
#1. Celebrate His Friendships
When buying a present, the natural thinking is to choose something that captures your love. So, the last thing he’ll expect is to open a present that celebrates his friendships.

You could do many different things to achieve this goal. From booking a paintball session to buying him alcoholic beverages. Experts review Kikori whiskey as a great option for something with a unique twist. If it makes your boyfriend’s next night in with the lads more enjoyable, it’s a great present.

Showing that you want him to enjoy his entire life, not only the parts with you, is a truly special thing. Do not underestimate its power.

#2. Join In
Another option is to actively show an interest in his greatest passions. This doesn’t mean that you’ll have to continually get involved with those activities. Nonetheless, your presence on just one occasion can make a difference.

Buying tickets to a sporting event, or booking a tour of the stadium is a great solution. Alternatively, you could go with him to a comedy night or partake in watersports together. The possibilities are virtually endless. As long as it’s an activity that is built around spending time together enjoying something he loves, you won’t go far wrong.

#3. Pop The Question
If the shock factor is what you’re after, a marriage proposal is hard to beat. Not only is it the most surprising gift, but it’s also one that he’ll never forget.  While it may be a slight role reversal, there’s nothing wrong with taking the initiative in this sense.

Of course, a proposal is a major life commitment that must be taken seriously. Nevertheless, when you feel that the relationship has reached this stage, it is one of the most beautiful things. The fact that you’ll be surprising him on his big day only takes the magic to another level.

#4. Arrange A Party
In truth, the list of physical presents that will truly stun your boyfriend is quite limited. However, organizing a party is something that he wouldn’t ever expect – especially if it isn’t a milestone birthday.

You don’t have to go overboard on expensive gimmicks. Arranging a garden party with all his friends and family can be the most special time of all. This party food review will point you in the right direction. Alternatively, hiring a hall can bring the desired effect. Ultimately, the key is to not blow the secret.

That moment when everyone jumps out is sure to give him a shock. More importantly, though, the party itself will leave him beaming from ear to ear.
