Failed To Get The Grades? They're Just Numbers

2/24/2017

You might think that if you fail to get the right grades in school or even fantastic qualifications in university, your job prospects are limited. But that’s far from the case, and there are plenty of careers where key personality traits are favoured over a number on a piece of paper.

As such, you can still
succeed in life even when you didn’t excel in education.

Running A Business
Do you need any qualifications or even any experience to run a business? Shockingly no, you can open up your own business tomorrow and be making profits within a couple of months. It’s incredibly easy to start a new business from scratch these days. You just need a website, a little capital and a key idea. Then, you can start thinking about selling and how to market to your target customers.
Learning To Fly
Do you need a degree to learn how to fly a plane? Actually, there are certain training courses run by top airlines where no degree or qualifications are necessary. You will, however, need to put down a large cash investment to get started. The good news is that once you have paid the money if you complete the course, you’ll quickly earn it back. Usually, you are also guaranteed a top paying position as a pilot for the airline running the training course.
Delivering Life
Or, if you want a career that is more fulfilling, you can work in medicine. You can become a midwife and work delivering babies into the world. There are lots of positions open on the market right now for people who want to be midwives without any degree. You can find out more in the following infographic.

Why It’s Good to Be a Teenage Bookworm

Reading may not seem like the most exciting thing to do when you have Facebook and Minecraft to keep you occupied, but reading is one of the best things you can do in your teenage years, for so many reasons.

Here are just a few of the reasons why it’s good to be a teenage bookworm:

Entertainment
You don’t need to stream the latest zombie show on Netflix or spend your time glued to your laptop screen to have a good time. Books are one of the original and best forms of entertainment. They can make you think, feel and have a great time. Whether you love vampires or can’t get enough of action heroes, there is always a book that is guaranteed to give you a good time.

Learn About Life
Reading about other cultures, perspectives and experiences you’ve yet to have can prepare you for life in the wider world. Books enable you to expand your horizons and see things differently. They make the world smaller and you a bigger part of it.

Build Your Vocabulary
Reading everything from novels to textbooks is a great way to build your vocabulary. The more you read, the more words you are exposed to and the more understanding of the English language you will gain.
Intelligence
One thing that most of the greatest minds in the world had in common is that they read a lot. Reading is the best way to find and absorb information, so if you want to be the next Elon Musk or Albert Einstein, you need to start picking up books in your chosen field of interest and actually doing some reading!

Improve Your Prospects
Of course, one of the major things a reading habit can do for you is improve your prospects. At your age, you will be expected to read, write and take a number of tests, which will determine which college you get into and could even have an impact on your future career. If therefore, you already have a strongly established reading habit, you will be at an advantage, and you should find it much easier to get to grips with standardized tests.

Prepare for College
There’s a reason why websites like Doctor Luggage are packed with sturdy college backpacks. When you get to college, no matter what you choose as your major, you will be expected to do a lot of reading. Not a day will go by when you won’t have your nose in a book, and if you’re not used to reading, you could find this very difficult. By picking up a reading habit in your teens, you can get used to reading, and understanding what you read, so that you will be on the road to success when you finally make it to college.
As you can see, there are so many positives to reading books that, even if you haven’t been much of a bookworm before, it is certainly worth visiting the library and making an effort to get into the reading habit. It will make your life better in so many ways!

It is estimated that by 2020, almost two-thirds of all jobs in the U.S. will require at least a college diploma. This means that, if you want to get your dream job  and make your way in the world, you will need to attend college.

Unfortunately, it is also the case that the average cost of attending college each year is $28,000 with top colleges demanding significantly more! So, what’s a girl to do? The good news is that there have never been more ways to save on the cost of college.

If you’re keen to get a college education and start the career you’ve always dreamed of, but you don’t want to spend the rest of your life paying off student loans, check out these simple ways of making college more affordable:

Distance Learning

Thanks to widespread internet access and the affordability of computer equipment, more and more colleges are offering distance learning courses in a range of subjects. These courses will enable you to get a college diploma at a fraction of the price, and they tend to be very flexible, so it is easy to work a job and study at the same time. However, they do come at a cost – you won’t get the full college experience of living in a dorm, spending time on campus, and this is something that many young people value.

Scholarships

If you are a good student who works hard and excels at one or more subjects, there is a decent chance that you could be awarded a scholarship. The internet has made it easier than ever before to search for and identify scholarships that you could be eligible for, and it makes sense to spend some time applying.

When applying for scholarships, be sure to carefully read the criteria and take your time writing essays or completing projects asked of you by the people offering the money. This way, you will increase your chances of success and avoid disappointment.

Scholarships are by no means guaranteed, but if you work hard, keep applying and try your best, there is every chance you could be awarded a sum that will make a dent in the costs of studying.

Get a Job

Ideally, if you are planning to get a college diploma when you graduate, you should get a job as soon as possible, and instead of frittering it away on new clothes and endless dates, you should save a much money as possible towards your college education. Ask your parents to help you find the best savings account or investment offers for your money, and you will have a nest egg to help you through your college days.

Of course, you should also try to get a job when you start attending college. Most colleges offer a wide range of on-campus jobs, which if you can get one, tend to fit around studies very well and pay enough to keep you from being a starving student.
Although the cost of college may seem daunting, it is an experience you will never forget and, in many cases, your key to a better life. Don’t miss the opportunity through fear of the financial implications!
