Dry skin is a big problem for some people and it’s hard to get around. Often, people end up throwing products at it and sometimes making it worse because they don’t really know what to do. Simply buying a product that says it’s good for dry skin isn’t always enough, you need to change your routine entirely.

If you’re struggling with dry skin and nothing seems to work,
here are some simple things that you can try.

Exfoliators
When you’ve got dry skin, you’re likely to have a lot of flaking and that can cause you problems when you’re trying to apply makeup etc. and it’ll make your skin look very dull and rough. The first step to improving your skin is clearing all of those dead skin cells away and the best way to do that is with a good exfoliator. Gently scrubbing your face with an exfoliator before you apply any more skin products will give you a good base to work from and make the rest of the products more effective.

Face Masks
Using a daily exfoliator is a good way to manage flaky skin but sometimes, you need something a little more drastic, which is where face masks come in. They’ll be able to clear the skin and strip away those layers of dead skin more effectively than an exfoliator. You shouldn’t use them too regularly because they can be harsh on the skin, once every couple of weeks is fine. You also need to be careful about the ingredients and consider your skin type because some will dry them out more than others. It’s best to buy face mask online because you’ve got more choice and you can find one that works for you. Try to go for more natural ingredients that will be kinder to your skin.

Unscented Skin Products
Anything that has a fragrance to it is bad news for your skin, especially if you’ve got dry skin. The chemicals that are used to create the fragrances are often very harsh on the skin and dry it out even further so, even though you think that you’re doing yourself good by using a moisturizer, you’re actually making the problem worse if it’s a scented one. Always use unscented products if you want to avoid dry skin.

Moisturize Properly
A lot of people get moisturizer wrong in their skincare routine. First off, you need to choose the right one (unscented and oil based is best for dry skin). Then you need to make sure that you’re applying it properly. Moisturizer is most effective when applied to damp skin rather than dry skin. It absorbs better and locks the moisture in for longer which helps to combat dry skin.

Showering Properly
You could be making your dry skin problem a lot worse if you’re not showering properly. That doesn’t mean not washing often enough, although that is obviously important, it means washing at the right temperature. If you shower in particularly hot water, that’s going to dry your skin out a lot, even if you’re using the right products on it afterwards. It’s always best to just turn the temperature down a little and shower in warm water rather than scolding hot.

These are all proven ways to tackle dry skin but everybody is different so you need to experiment with your skin routine and find one that works for you.
