10 Fun Ways To Use Jewelry To Spice Up An Outfit

If you’re wearing an outfit and you know it’s missing something but you’re not quite sure what, there’s one very good chance that it’s jewelry. Jewelry can make any outfit infinitely more interesting, and can bring it a certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ like nothing else can. Just take a look at icons like Iris Apfel; she has an extensive jewelry collection that she uses to make each of her outfits look fun and unique!

However, if you’re not used to wearing jewelry, you might be a little but overwhelmed and confused about where to start. Don’t fear! This guide is here to help you with 10 fun ways you can use jewelry to spice up an outfit. Enjoy…

1. Stack Up Your Jewelry
One really fun way of wearing your jewelry is stacking it. Stacking jewelry on your fingers, arms, and even your neck can create a layered look that’s perfect for festivals, or when you want to give an outfit a little more oomph. Experiment with different shapes, colors, stones, and sizes so you can get a really textured finish that looks awesome. You can use sites like Pinterest to see how other people stack their pieces.

2. Pay Attention To Your Neckline
A necklace can be a great way to finish off an outfit, but there are ways you should and shouldn’t go about it. Take a look at your neckline for starters: you can still wear a necklace with a high neckline, but it can be a little more difficult to pull off. If you have a deep neckline, wearing a slightly longer necklace can look great. Necklaces of different lengths layered up can look great with a neck line like this, too.

3. Wear Natural Stones For A Boho Look
Natural stones are perfect if you want to emulate the boho look with your style. You can get turquoise bangles and rings for example, and they aren't too expensive, either. These pieces are so popular for holidays and festivals, so make sure you get yours in advance. You can find out more about contemporary pieces that suit festivals by clicking the link.

4. Experiment With Fun Hair Jewelry
You can even buy hair jewelry, these days! Many people like to wear hair rings in their plaits, for instance. These types of pieces can bring a seriously funky vibe to an outfit, and sometimes even look edgy. Again, perfect for a festival or a night out when you want to give it your all and dress to impress.

5. Remember: Minimal Is Great Too
Just because this post is talking about ways to use jewelry to spice up your outfit doesn’t mean you have to cover yourself in a ton of metal. Minimal is great too, and can sometimes look better depending on what you’re wearing. For example, a simple pair of ear studs or a couple of simple pairs, one simple ring, maybe a plain necklace - all of these things combined can look great and give your outfit just what it needs to look complete.

6. Statement Earrings
If you're struggling to make your outfit look more interesting, this is how to do it: statement earrings. Statement earrings are a fantastic way to dip your toe into the world of wild jewelry, and they can make even the most boring outfit look awesome. How about some huge hoops, or some heart shaped hoops? Maybe you could wear some pom poms in your ears, or something equally as colorful? Colored plastic is a very popular earring choice this year, too. They have a real 80s feel about them and can funk up your outfit nicely.

7. Wear Lots Of Hoops On One Ear
Somehow, wearing lots of hoops on one ear always looks edgy. If you want to bring a badass vibe to your outfit, then add lots of hoops. Alternatively, you could add an ear cuff. Your earrings might not seem that important at first thought, but they can make the biggest difference to your look.

8. Experiment With Non-Pierced Jewelry

How about experimenting with your look using non-pierced jewelry? You could try out septum piercings, nose piercings, and lip piercings depending on what you’re curious about. Again, this type of thing is great for a festival - where everybody is free to experiment with their style and just focus on having fun!

9. Start An Arm Party
An arm party is a mixture of bracelets, bangles, and usually a watch that complement one another perfectly. You can find examples on Instagram. Your watch should take centre stage, and you should use different colors and textures to make your arm party extra gorgeous.

10. Don't Be Afraid To Mix Metals
Mixing metals might sound scary, but honestly, it works so well! Many people prefer to use one metal - usually the one that suits their skin tone best. It’s down to you. If you do fancy trying out gold or rose gold for a change, don’t be afraid to mix it up.
While experimenting with jewelry and finding your own personal style is fantastic, one thing you need to do is know when to stop. The thrill of owning wonderful jewelry is amazing, and you might find yourself wanting to throw on every great piece you own every time you leave the house. Don’t do this! You want to look cool, sophisticated, classy, and all of that good stuff - you don’t want to look garish or like you’ve been playing dress up in somebody else’s jewelry box. One rule some people like to go by is looking in the mirror and taking off the first thing you see. Failing that, you could always take off the last thing you put on, if you’re not sure whether you’ve put too much on or not. Ultimately, though, this is about wearing jewelry in a way you find enjoyable. There are no real rules, so don’t be afraid to break them or make up your own.
