BRIGHTER THAN THE SUN

Hello summer, bye bye winter! Some places are hotter than others, colder than others, and whether you see the rays reaching out to you or not, one thing we've learned over the years is, wear sunscreen! It's no secret that one of the main causes of aging is the sun. While aging is inevitable, aging gracefully is not.
What is sunscreen and why should we use it?
According to an article from Skin Cancer Foundation, “Sunscreens are products combining several ingredients that help prevent the sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation from reaching the skin”. But of course you already knew that. What you probably didn't know is that there is more than one type of ultraviolet radiation. For the purposes of our skin, I will tell you a little about UVA and UVB. These two work together to harm your skin.

Ultraviolet Radiation Causes
UVB and UVA “damage the skin, age it prematurely, and increase your risk of skin cancer”. While UVB is responsible for the sunburn, UVA rays “penetrate the skin more deeply, are associated with wrinkling, leathering, sagging, and other light-induced effects of aging”. Plus, UVA rays increase the severity for the UVB rays to produce cancer (skincancer.org).
The amount of sunscreen depends on your exposure to the sun; skin experts recommend beauty products with SPF. Wearing sunscreen shouldn't be an option, it should be part of your beauty regimen, especially if you use acne products.
The combination of acne products and sun exposure are the equivalent of unwanted marks.
Finding a sunscreen that's not too heavy and you feel comfy with can be challenging. Go to  a makeup counter like Sephora and take a few samples home. Here are some brands that come highly recommended: Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer Liquid Daily Sunblock SPF 7, $12.49; Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 45, $9.49; and CLARINS UV Plus HP Broad Spectrum SPF 40 Sunscreen Multi-Protection, $40 (try a free sample at Sephora).

WHY IT’S OK FOR YOU TO PROPOSE TO HIM

All around the world, everywhere you look, men are proposing to women. For years, the thought of a woman proposing has seemed strange and unnatural. Some women say that you should never propose to a man. Some men say it’s an insult to their manhood. I say poppycock! What difference does it make if a woman proposes to her boyfriend? None. There’s nothing wrong with it at all.

Women have fought for years to have equal rights as men. You can’t campaign for equal rights and then play the ‘oh but it’s tradition for the men to propose’ card. It used to be tradition for the woman to stay at home while the man went to work. But we said goodbye to that tradition a long time ago. You should never shy away from something because of unwritten societal rules on gender. It’s ludicrous. As a woman in the 21st century you’ve been breaking traditions your whole life. You made it through the uncertain journey of college life. You went and got a job after graduation. You’ve worked hard your whole life to climb the career ladder as a woman. You’ve fought gender stereotypes for years; don’t give into another one.

Some women have put off the idea of proposing because they want that special engagement ring. If this bothers you that much, then you need not worry. If you propose to him, that doesn’t mean you can’t have an engagement ring as well. In situations like this the man can still buy you a ring. Some men feel obliged to do it, like it’s their rite of passage before you get married. If he wants you to buy you a ring and you two agree, why not call it a ring shop date? You can slyly hint at how much courage it took to propose. And that you deserve one of the lovely princess-cut rings shown here: https://diamondsky.com.au/engagement-rings/princess-cut. There’s nothing wrong with using your situation to be a bit persuasive, right?

Possibly the biggest reason people think women shouldn’t propose is because it’s wounding to your boyfriend's manhood. What a load of rubbish. Firstly, the idea of a man so insecure that he’s insulted by a proposal is hilarious. Secondly, if your boyfriend loves you, they won’t give a damn if you propose. They won’t be insulted in any way. They won’t feel any less of a man. If they love you, they’ll be happy. In many occasions partners are looking to propose and know they’ve found their life partner, but it’s also difficult to tell sometimes when and if it’s the right time. After all, it is a lifetime commitment. If they haven’t proposed, it may not be because they’re doubtful of you, but rather overwhelmed with nerves. Sometimes, switching it up and breaking traditions by proposing to them clears any doubt (if any) and it’s reassuring to them just how much they really love you.

Proposing shouldn’t be gender-specific. At the end of the day, if you love someone so much that you want to be with them, tell them. Prehistoric thoughts shouldn’t be an obstacle to proposing in the new age.
What are your thoughts?

TOP FATHER’S DAY GIFT IDEAS

6/3/2015

We’ve hit June, which means summer and finals and you’re off for some good fun! It’s a month filled with differing emotions of joy and despair. It’s also the month where we get to celebrate the number one man in our lives, Dad. Yes, Father’s Day is rapidly approaching, and it brings the usual mini-panic of ‘what do I get him?’ Dads are notoriously tricky to buy gifts for. So how about reading on for some great Father’s Day gift ideas?

Food

Food is always an easy pleaser. Every Dad loves food. You can splash the cash on some expensive chocolates or a nice cake. The great thing about a food gift is that you don’t necessarily have to spend money. Try making a food gift for your dad; it adds a nice, personal, touch.

Drink

Another classic Father’s Day gift idea! If there’s one thing your dad loves more than food, it’s probably a good cocktail. Pick up your dad a bottle (or two) of his favorite wine, or pick out your own selection. You could even buy him a pack of some exotic beer. Also, instead of buying just a bottle of wine or two, you could buy him a wine subscription. That way he gets wine all year round!

Clothes

Buying clothes for your dad can be a tough choice because you may not know his size/style. Some dads have that unique ‘dad’ look that only they know how to pull off. But don’t worry, there are plenty of gift ideas in the clothes department. Buying your dad a tie has been a favorite for many over the years, so why not switch things up? Buy him something unique like a men’s chef jacket, so he can look and feel like a pro. With BBQ season around the corner, it’s the ideal Father’s Day gift for all those wannabe-chef dads.

Entertainment

One of the easier gift ideas for dad’s this Father’s day. Your dad is sure to have his favorite TV show or film, which makes a blu-ray the perfect gift. Or, you can take him out to the cinema for a ‘Father’s Day Out’. There are usually lots of great films out during the summer season too. Check out a clip from the new comedy film ‘Spy’ here!

Get Creative

If you’re short on cash, then sometimes the best gift is a homemade one. Make your dad a special Father’s Day card or a photo collage of the two of you. A photo collage doesn’t just make a great Instagram post, it can be a really thoughtful gift too. Maybe even go one step further and make him something useful like a change pot. Dad’s are experts at having loads of loose change so a pot to keep it all in would be very useful.

There are tones of great gift ideas for your dad this Father’s day. It’s all right if you can’t afford the top shelf gifts, your dad won’t resent you for it. As the cliché goes, it’s the thought that counts.

COMING TO TERMS WITH ROMANTIC BETRAYAL

'All You Need Is Love'. That's what the Beatles famously sang. When love is great, it beats anything else this world has to offer. However, when it goes wrong, it has a tendency to hit us harder than anyone who has yet to feel that pain could ever imagine.

Dishonesty within relationships is relatively common and can manifest itself in various forms. Of all of them, being cheated on is easily one of the hardest to take and can take a long time to recover from. Despite being the victim, you will naturally start to question whether it was your fault. Rest assured, it wasn't.

It is a sore subject that you must first be absolutely certain about. There's nothing worse than throwing false accusations at your partner. That could have an equally damning impact on the relationship.

Perhaps it's all in your mind. Maybe your own insecurities have created a false betrayal. However, if you have suspicions then it's definitely worth acting upon them. Not knowing the answer one way or the other will eventually eat your world apart. Knowing how to find out if your spouse is cheating could be an essential step en route to solving your issues.

If you find concrete evidence that your partner has cheated, do not accept it under any circumstance. Not only should you confront them, you should gather your thoughts and be honest with yourself. Don't accept excuses like, “It wasn't me.” They say “once a cheater, always a cheater”. Your partner has already lied to you at least once, don't think of them as having an epiphany and experiencing a sudden change. Cutting your losses now will save you a lot of grief in the long run. Perhaps more importantly, it will allow you to move on quicker.

It's important to reiterate that the cheating was not your fault. Remembering this won't lessen the pain, but it will at least you rid you of any unnecessary guilt.

As the victim of infidelity, you will naturally go through several stages before truly starting the road to recovery. One will be to remember the good times and question whether it is worth giving things another shot. Ultimately, though, this person wasn't the person you originally thought. And if they are, it’s time to reconsider the reasons you were in a relationship with them in the first place?

Once you've fully come to terms with the betrayal, you can finally start to think about mending that broken heart. Before that, though, it's worth investing in 'me time'. Take up a new hobby or introduce something fun and exciting to your life. This will quickly show you that life does go on and that you can still enjoy the world and the amazing things it has to offer.

Finding a new lover is not a rush. You enjoyed the single life before meeting your now-ex partner and you should take time to savour it once more. New love will manifest in good time, just be careful not to let those scars stop your next relationship from blossoming.
