Given the current issues arising within our society a political show was to be expected. From Kendrick Lamar’s show opening performance of DNA and Humble (backed by a gang of ninja warriors and a wall of flames) to Paris Jackson's speech, and the single from California Natives YG & Nipsey Hussle's, FDT (Fuck Donald Trump), the show was clearly engaging. A favorite moment of the VMA's is the high five of the year. During the performance that ruled the night with a tribute to her classics and recent single, What About Us P!nk was greeted by her daughter Willow Sage Hart on stage, who was given a reassuring high five by her momma. Upon accepting the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, P!nk used the platform to share a personal story of self acceptance and self value. One topic we cannot hear enough of. Another powerful performance was Logic’s 1-800-273-8255, ft. Alessia Cara & Khalid, which increased call volume to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline by 50 percent. With or without politics, there's one theme that led the night. That of course is unity by the power of music. Some may argue (and we totally agree), MTV's 2017 VMA's is one of their best by far of the millennium. To watch the full show, go to mtv.com.
