(The Outfield) and Kade Wise (Empire). It also features Danny Trejo (Machete), Soledad St. Hilaire (Beatriz at Dinner), Kurt Caceres (Better Call Saul, Dexter) and Rolando Molina (American Dad!, Next Friday). Murder in the Woods is centered on a group of college friends who plan a getaway to celebrate a birthday party at a desolate cabin in the woods. Against his grandmother’s (Soledad St. Hilaire) demands, Jesse (José Julián), a loner-type decides to go on a trip with his friends. He is immediately smitten with Fernanda (Jeanette Samano), a sweet girl from Chicago whom he hasn’t seen in years. She is in town visiting her loudmouth cousin, Chelsea (Chelsea Rendon), who is ready to celebrate her birthday and plans to let loose with her boyfriend Gabe (Jordan Diambrini). Tagging along at the last second are Jule (Kade Wise), the class clown pothead, and the very out-of-his-league Celeste (Catherine Toribio). Soon after arriving to the mysterious cabin in the woods, the group of teens discover the dark secret it holds, which forces them to fight for their lives. “I realized that this type of film had never been done in English for a mainstream audience, where Latinos and people of color are the leads and they are not portrayed in stereotypical ways,” says Director Luis Iga Garza. “This is why, while developing this indie feature, we were very conscious of making sure that there would be a diverse cast in lead roles.”
The film opened in drive-ins and theaters nationwide in August and is still playing in select cities. Murder in the Woods is available for in-home viewing on Digital and Video on Demand platforms September 18, 2020. Here's an exclusive clip and the trailer. by IC mag Editors

What It Feels Like How is it that today In this day and age Men still feel the freedom to attack me? Get home from work and there they are, ready to devour me All I know I can control is the hiding of my body As I try hard not to show an inch that attracts or objectifies me But it doesn't matter No matter how much I hide, your imagination survives Loud and clear through the lust in your eyes Sometimes I jog with the middle fingers up Laugh it off, I know it’s funny But I get some satisfaction from it I guess it’s simply the acknowledgment, I see you The way you look at me I bet your daughter's think you’re a saint Perhaps your wife deems you worthy But all I see is a man who objectifies me Who wishes he’d undress me With every step you’re in me You disgust me But I do nothing else because I fear you Because I know you’re stronger Despite the advancements the law still serves you I wish I could just curse you I get angry when I feel your looks When you speak your mind and still, I fear to speak mine How is it that today In this day and age After all the marches All the fight Some of us are still in fear for our lives? I ache because as I age I feel more afraid My sister’s growing up, and this is what’s ahead? What the hell are we fighting for? Why aren’t more men? The ones who still respect? They don’t understand how it feels Walking outside with fear A stronger, bigger, louder creature Why? Just why? |
