While how we feel on the inside shouldn’t be defined by who we are, it does! Wardrobe is personality for many people. Have you ever felt so crappy that while you didn’t want to get out the house (you absolutely had to), you threw on something that would cheer you up?

I'm here to tell you, that is absolutely normal! Iconic Chica got the chance to speak to fashionista Jessica Otero of modaotero.com. She shares with us one of her favorite quotes by Sharon Haver, “Style is not about being boring and predictable. It’s about having fun in your attire and feeling fantastic about yourself."

Jessica Otero is an overall artist, stylist, writer, traveler, and philanthropist. See more at modaotero.com.

ICONIC CHICA: Is cleaning out your wardrobe important?
Jessica Otero: Cleaning your wardrobe is important and you want to make sure that you clean it out at least twice a year.

IC: How do fashion and style affect attitude and self-esteem?
JO: It’s mostly about having personality. Go for whatever attracts you and appeals to you. Don’t follow the magazine if they say, “in style”. If you feel good, wear it.

IC: What are three most important pieces of wardrobe every female should have?
JO: A black pair of pumps, black dress, and black bag.

IC: What accessory is an absolute must have?
JO: Sunglasses

IC: What can you tell young women about being confident with the right style?
JO: Don’t be influenced by what you think is popular but by what you like.

Otero concludes with a personal story, " Light Jeans with rhinestones. Even if it wasn’t in style everyone thought it was tacky, but when I wore it everyone loved it. “Only you could pull it off,” they said. Because I was the only one who felt confident enough to wear what I wanted.

A variety of young musicians from across the country were carefully selected for the Grammy Camp 2014 in Los Angeles, CA. Among these talented artist's was female trombonist from Houston, Texas, LizVette Rivera.  The only female trombonist selected in the entire Grammy Camp.

Iconic Chica was at the Tenth Annual Grammy Camp 2014 Launch Party and got to see LizVette Rivera in action and in front of a live audience. We had the chance to speak with the musician after the show, and while she admits she was a little nervous, she said, “Once I started just getting up there and just dancing in the beginning, I just kinda felt relieved that I’m actually doing this.”

Iconic Chica: Beginning the show, the emcee explained that what the audience was about to see was a "combination of ten days of hard work." For the first time, you're away from your family doing what you love. What has this experience been like for you?

LizVette Rivera: I felt like I was in college actually. It was so much fun interacting with all these new people and the new tracks that I never really heard of, and just collaborating and just having a fun time. I’ll never forget this experience.

I.C.: You were the only female trombonist, that has got feel awesome! Tell me about that?

LV.R.:  At first I was like, not again ‘cause I’m the only girl trombonist back at home, but after a while I just kinda got use to it.

I.C.: So music is obviously a very important part of you. I understand you’re going to college to study music. What made you find the love for music and decide to pursue a career?

LV.R.: Probably, this camp actually changed my whole thing with music, definitely.

I.C.: Before the Grammy Camp, what was it about music and playing an instrument that really attracted you to playing the trombone in particular?

LV.R.: I just love listening to like musical stuff. I mean, listening to how everything collaborates together and how good it sounds. I just wanted to do that… and because my mom too and my uncle.

Iconic Chica also had the chance to steal a few words from the young starlet’s mother, Lydia Rivera. She tells me that although, as a single mother things get difficult, there are no obstacles that impede the future of her daughter's.

Iconic Chica: What were the emotions like when you saw your daughter live on stage?

Lydia Rivera: Unreal. It was a true dream come true as a parent and at the same time scary because it’s all falling into place, all her hard work for the past seven years.

I.C.: Some parents are skeptical about having their kids aspire to be in the music industry, but you are quite the opposite.

L.R.: You know, as a parent it's not easy, you know into doing something that they’re good at. Especially as a female trombonist you get so overlooked, but whenever you prove that you're as good as any other trombonist, whether it’s a male or a female, you have to give 'em that push. You have to let them know that they are more than capable of, you know accomplishing their dream and there’s gonna be no's and there’s gonna be yes. But you have to go for it.

LizVette is not the only musical talent in the family. Lydia is a proud mom of two talented girl's. She enthused that her youngest, Imari Rivera is a dancer. It could have something to do with their Latina background, as Lydia Rivera is from Puerto Rico. It’s safe to say that although Mommy (Lydia) is in the medical field, the girls did get some latin flair from their mother.

With hard work and dedication, along with mind-blowing talent, there are no limits for this Latina trombonist. LizVette Rivera is a rising starlet.

    by Jessica G Ferrer
    Think of the painted lady.
Its short lived life is colorful,

    It's bright.
    Unless interrupted, it carries on.
    It flies...

Fulfilling its one and only short lived life. "
