Hola Mexico Film Festival presented by DishLATINO AnnounceD Winners of the First Class of 'Tomorrow’s Filmmakers Today' - An Intensive 10-Day Program for Young Hispanic Filmmakers

Picture

Hola Mexico Film Festival presented by DishLATINO, the largest Mexican film festival outside of Mexico, announced the winners of their first ever class of Tomorrow’s Filmmakers Today – a 10-day program for emerging Hispanic filmmakers in Los Angeles, CA.

The 24 applicants selected for the program are Hispanic students based in Los Angeles, and most are current students or recent graduates from universities such as USC, UCLA, NYFA, Pitzer College and Cal Arts. In order to be considered for the program, applicants submitted videos, screenplays of their film work and a personal statement about their commitment to their heritage and culture.
Winners of the First Class of Tomorrow’s Filmmakers Today include: Carlos Aguilar, Esteban Arango, Angie Aurana, Kimberly Bautista, Juan Luis Bravo, Christian Contreras, Fabian Euresti, Eloísa García, Lorena Gordon, Jonathan Francisco Infante, Silvia Lara, Sara Celeste Martin, Juan Martínez Vera, Diego Najera Martínez, Gabriela Paciel, Anthony Pérez, Jackie Pérez, Luis Sánchez, Vladimir Santos, Francisco Tejeda, Andrew Vázquez and Alan Vidali.

“It has been a highly selective process and only half of our extremely qualified applicants were chosen,” said Samuel Douek, Director of Hola Mexico Film Festival presented by DishLATINO. “Our goal for this program is to give the participants the opportunity to create strong ties within the industry and the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations with industry professionals that they wouldn’t otherwise be able to do.”

The 10-day program will include screenings of the films at the Hola Mexico Film Festival presented by DishLATINO taking place May 13-22, intimate conversations with the directors and actors from the films featured at the festival, a visit to CAA to meet with their senior staff, a panel and tour visit hosted by Fox Audience Strategy and special guest talks from top leaders of the Hispanic film industry including Rodrigo Prieto, Patricia Riggen, Roberto Sneider and Ligiah Villalobos. In addition, the participants will take classes with professors from CSUN and Loyola Law School and meet with important leaders from NALIP, DGA, WGA and Pantelion Films.

The Tomorrow’s Filmmakers Today program has been made possible by the East Side Arts Initiative, a grant-making program focused on supporting non-profit visual and performing arts organizations, and fostering collaborations for furthering the arts in the Greater East side, and the collaboration of Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México - Los Angeles.

A NEW THRILLING HORROR EXPERIENCE IS COMING THIS AUGUST: 'DON'T BREATH'

'Don’t Breathe'
Trailer Launch Experience

Picture
ICmag's Jessica G. Ferrer with writer/director Fede Alvarez
A very limiting breath experience. As you sit back to enjoy (or stand-as I was), you begin to question if you should even be watching.

As the viewer, you are there to witness the fearful experience of a blind man and what he sees. Writer/director Fede Alvarez told us that while in his previous film Evil Dead, revolved around demons, this film centers a little more on reality, which is just as (if not more) scary. On choosing the title, Don't Breath, he gave an honest and simple answer, 'holding your breath is something you'll be doing a lot in the film'. In fact, he confessed that the idea for the title came from the viewer's feedback after screening the movie. With enough oxygen for all of us, it's safe to say breathing will be allowed during the film.
As part of a little press day fun, we got to hang out with some colleagues at Countdown Live Escape in downtown Los Angeles. We gave in and took the Don’t Breathe Experience: an escape room themed to the film. We got locked in a room and left to unravel the mystery. An adventure close enough to a breathless experience, we got to escape the room just in time. The experience is intense and inspired by the premise of Don't Breath.
Picture
The venue is equipped with different experiences where you solve puzzles and decipher clues in order to find the key to unlock the door. You can find out more about Countdown Live Escape here.

'DON'T BREATH' synopsis:

A trio of reckless thieves breaks into the house of a wealthy blind man, thinking they'll get away with the perfect heist. They're wrong.

PAPA: HEMINGWAY IN CUBA OUT IN THEATERS!

5/1/2016

NOW IN THEATERS...

Picture

A young Miami Herald journalist is befriended by Ernest and Mary Hemingway and witnesses Hemingway's decline into depression and alcoholism with the backdrop of the Cuban Revolution.

PAPA is the first Hollywood film to shoot on location in Cuba since the 1959 revolution. The film marks a watershed moment in that Yari and his multinational crew filmed almost entirely in and around Havana, Cuba. A cultural milestone, helmed by an American director with Hollywood actors, a film of this significance has not been produced in Cuba in over 50-years. Bob can speak to the incredible hurdles he and his team had to overcome to shoot down there – including getting rights from State Department to shoot in Cuba based on "documentary," and the access the crew had to shoot in Hemingway’s original Cuban home. This exclusive access had never been granted before to any feature production – or even the public.

    'Live,' a poem

    Think of the painted lady.
Its short lived life is colorful,

    It's bright.
    Unless interrupted, it carries on.
    It flies...

Fulfilling its one and only short lived life. "
