Melissa Rivera celebrates the release of her webseries, Carmen Miranda.

A fun story of a young woman living in America.
Picture

Here's the Scoop.

Picture
Carmen Miranda’s life isn't perfect. She doesn't want to be forced to fit a mold. Then, her brother shows up, her coworkers get meaner, dates are a disaster and finally, she makes a radical choice.
At its core, Carmen Miranda is about resilience, re-invention, faith, and identity. It highlights the challenges Latinos face in America. It's about relationships and being different. All while celebrating the legacy and vibrancy of one of the most iconic Latin Hollywood legends, Carmen Miranda.

"The series got made with the help of a GoFundMe campaign, amazing cast and crew. I feel the responsibility to acknowledge the support I received to finish the series and moving the work forward," says Melissa.

With the hopes of a second season, Rivera shares some character possibilities. Maybe "Carmen takes a job at an LGBTQ senior center and it is the seniors who give her great life lessons and help her find her voice and maybe… love?"

We are definitely ready to find out.

Rom-Com With a Touch of Mental Health, 'My Boyfriend's Meds'

4/25/2020

Bringing the romance and the comedy to a multi-personality disorder sounds intriguing, especially for a Spanish language film. We're not saying it hasn't been made or that it's non-existant. Mental Health is stigmatized in society and Hispanics are no exception. Though not exactly the heart of the story, this film does include a touch of reality many of us are familiar with, mental health disorders. We're definitely adding this one to our quarantine watch list.

Heres the scoop.

Sandra Echeverría and Jaime Camil  star in the romantic comedy Las Pildoras de mi Novio (My Boyfriend’s Meds). Jess (Sandra Echeverría) is a talented, high-powered marketing executive at an upscale tequila company who begins dating Hank (Jaime Camil), a charismatic mattress store owner she meets while shopping for a new bed.
Picture
Written and directed by Diego Kaplan (Desire), this film includes guest appearances by Grammy winner, Primetime Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Jason Alexander and Golden Globe nominee Brooke Shields.

OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS

Sparks fly when marketing exec Jess (Sandra Echeverría) meets Hank (Jaime Camil), and when Jess invites Hank to accompany her to an island resort for a business retreat, he accepts. But when they arrive, Hank discovers he’s left behind the array of meds he secretly takes to manage his multiple personality disorder.

As Hank tries to keep a lid on his increasingly crazy behavior, Jess must choose to follow her head or her heart in this raucous romantic-comedy featuring appearances by Jason Alexander and Brooke Shields.
From Lionsgate, My Boyfriend's Meds will be available on Digital and On Demand April 28.

A Daughter's Question Answered in 'Circus of Books'

4/21/2020

This one is both intriguing and interesting, so we couldn't pass on the opportunity of sharing it with you. I mean to finally ask the question, how Mom and Dad became America's biggest distributors of gay porn? I don't know about you, but I definitely want the answer to that. Even if I didn't, I can't seem to shake off the curiosity.

Here's the scoop on Circus of Books.

Picture
For 35-plus years, the gay porn shop Circus of Books gave Los Angeles' LGBT+ community a space to socialize and celebrate themselves without judgment. Unbeknownst to many customers, the store was cultivated by owners Karen and Barry Mason, a straight,
While maintaining the secret, they witnessed the dawn of the HIV/AIDS epidemic firsthand, losing a generation of treasured employees. Still, during that time, they never identified as activists — just everyday entrepreneurs catering to a market, until the Internet destroyed it.
Picture
mainstream couple with three children who went to religious school and were unaware of their parents' business. The Masons long refused to disclose the nature of their business to friends or family.
Picture
Executive produced by Ryan Murphy, Circus of Books is the debut documentary from artist Rachel Mason, who finally asks the least radical people she knows — her parents — how they became America's biggest distributors of gay porn, and why Karen reacted so negatively when her own son came out of the closet.

The story is available April 22 on Netflix. I'm sure wine will be necessary, but I'll keep it close just in case.

Yet another reason to stay in...
The duo that had us wrapped up to our couch, chair, floor, whatever (and possibly during our flow weeks... and grateful for it!) is back. Rumor has it, this season will lure you in when the story keeps unraveling. Not to mention Diana Maria Riva who brings some mix into the game.
Picture
Heres's the scoop:
Jen (Christina Applegate), Judy (Linda Cardellini) and the lies that entwine them are back for another season. Picking up in the aftermath of that bloody backyard reveal, the irrepressible pair once again struggle to keep their secrets buried. With a surprising new visitor in town and Detective Perez (Diana Maria Riva) hot on their heels, Jen and Judy take drastic measures to protect their loved ones and each other -- no matter the cost.
Picture
From Emmy Award-winning creator Liz Feldman, Dead to Me returns for an addictively dark second season, where the stakes are higher, the friendship is deeper and the traumas that bond loom larger than ever before.

Here's the trailer:

Grab those snacks, snooze that phone, and get ready to quarantine with these two gals... and detective Perez. Okay so the show is not out for another month, but we've got something to look forward to when Dead to Me is ready to stream on May 8.
