Common Risks and Dangers Associated with Makeup

Makeup products are often trivialized. But a lipstick, mascara and eyeliner can be important tools for many women and men around the world. The right shade of lipstick can empower you to excel at your latest meeting, the right shade of rouge can make you feel better about yourself after a long day. It doesn't matter if you see it as a professional tool or a way to improve your mood, many people see makeup as more than just cosmetic implements.

However, makeup can also carry risks, even if they are made by the best companies. The origin or ingredients of the makeup can compromise its safety. For example, only 11 makeup ingredients are banned in the US compared to the more than 1,300 substances banned by the European Union.

Learn some of the most common risks you can encounter if you regularly use a lot of makeups in your everyday life.

A lot of makeup can pose risks to the safety of your eyes. This can be through no fault of the manufacturer because applying eye makeup safely takes time and skill. If you are not paying close attention to what you are doing, that bristly mascara brush may end up scraping your eyeball.

There is also the risk that the makeup could contain irritants that can cause eye infections if used at all. Pay attention to what you are doing and be very careful with how you use eye makeup to avoid painful and visually impairing incidents.

Although manufacturers have been making great leaps and strides in creating hypoallergenic makeup, there are still plenty of ingredients that can trigger allergic reactions. Even if you use products that use natural preservatives for cosmetics, you still run the risk of getting puffy faced or inflamed due to an allergen. It can be very hard to avoid allergens in makeup since the ingredients to these things can be confusing.

If you can't decipher the ingredients listed on a makeup product's packaging, you can apply a little of the makeup on your forearm just to see how you will react. This way you can avoid getting puffy faced if you happen to be allergic to it.

Sometimes puffiness and inflammation caused by makeup isn't due to your body overreacting to an ingredient but rather because the ingredient itself is harming your skin. This can be because the substance is very caustic or using a particularly strong concentration. Skin irritation can be difficult to detect with makeup because the product can hide the effect. You may detect itchiness or slight irritation.
Always test your makeup before using it to avoid getting severe skin irritation after you leave the house. If left unattended, severe skin irritation can cause welts, raised bumps on the skin, redness and maybe even progress into actual wounds, especially if you keep scratching the affected area.
If you use makeup every day, that means your makeup products and the devices you use to apply them are constantly being exposed to different contaminants like particles and bacteria. Too much build up can mean you are spreading bacteria all over your face. This means that you should always assiduously keep cleaning them, especially the different sponges and brushes used to put them on.

Every two weeks you should gather all your makeup kit tools and give them a thorough washing. Sponges need to be soaked, squeezed and rinsed to remove particulates. Brushes need to be shaken and disinfected, especially those you used around your eyes. Be careful what cleaning product or disinfectant you use to spruce up your brushes and sponges so that you don't irritate your skin and eyes.

Several chemicals associated with makeup can be extremely flammable and ignite when exposed to open flames. There are different safety guidelines for using these chemicals even when they are sill in the production line. Flammable chemicals are even more common with fragrances and nail products.

Thankfully, all manufacturers are regulated to inform consumers when cosmetics are flammable. This means that you have to be very careful when using them so that you avoid sources of ignition. This way you can prevent any nasty burns or house fires that may happen if someone accidentally uses your cologne near a candle.

Makeup can help build confidence, increase allure and make you feel powerful. But like all chemical substances, you need to be very careful and knowledgeable when using them. This information can help you stay safe and beautiful when using cosmetics.
