Everything from WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY and THE WITCHES to MATILDA and JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH, ROALD DAHL was a real storyteller.
With over 200 million copies sold worldwide, his books were not just a print or words on a page, they had a way to transmit from the world we know as real to an adventure and worlds that only he created. Dahl was a unique storyteller. With the release of BFG, now in theaters, we celebrate 100 years of Roald Dahl. His stories go back decades. In 1942 his first short story Piece of Cake (they say the title was changed to make it more dramatic) was published.
From there, he continued writing and at that time (1940's), he began to write children's stories. In fact, according to roalddahl.com, The Gremlins is one of the first stories he ever wrote.
Did you know? The Big Friendly Giant was written in the 1980's.
The talents of three of the world’s greatest storytellers – Roald Dahl, Walt Disney and Steven Spielberg – finally unite to bring Dahl’s beloved classic “The BFG” to life. Directed by Spielberg, Disney’s “The BFG” tells the imaginative story of a young girl and the Giant who introduces her to the wonders and perils of Giant Country. THE BFGis now in theaters.
